Hi,
I decided to get my Giant XTC on the road again after a couple of years and the front wheel wont turn.
The bike has Ginat MPH brakes having managed to get the wheel off I cant get it back on as the pads are too close together to get the disc back in place.
Any ideas?
I am a noob at bikes BTW.
Cheers,
Al

brack off the adjuster if it is that type of MPH brake.

or use something clean to separate the pads if they are not the early MPH brakes.

  • I used a flat head to pry apart a little but I didn’t want to force it.
Got the wheel on but won’t turn.
I was trying to use a hex key on the fluid reservoir to let a little fluid out but the key seems to be chewing up the nut!!!
I have no idea what to do now!

ok then back to the caliper end. a good sized screw driver pressed on the metal backing of a brake pad to press the opposite piston home and visa versa. so as not to damage the braking material.

work both sides and then try opening them with something between the pads.

if that does not get you anywhere then it will be bleed time.

  • Hi,
    Sorry for not responding yesterday.
I have tried putting in a flat head and pulling apart but to no avail.
Am I doing it right? I am putting in the flat head where I have marked the red cross and its not budging.
As you can see the pads are apart bu not enough to get the disc to spin....it only just fits.
    The adjuster is fully open.
I cant get the hex to grip the nut to bleed either...this just gets worse!
