MTB Rigid Forks (Cheap 'n' Nasty)

I currently have an old clunker of a mountain bike set up on my turbo trainer and it's been working fine on the whole but the front suspension just gave up and died making pedalling standing up a bit of a soggy mess.
So I'm looking for a very cheap set of rigid forks to replace them with... but I have no idea what specs / size I should be looking for. The current bike is a Halfords own brand 26er if that helps. I can do some measuring if necessary, though at this point I'm not sure what I'd need to be measuring!
Wondering maybe about something like this: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/ral ... 1-ec033200

What headset type do you have? That'll be the biggest deciding factor. The one you linked to is only for old-style 1" threaded headsets. Most more modern bikes are at least 1 1/8" threadless. What exactly is the bike?0

I shall go and have a look!0

Ok, it seems to be a Halfords Apollo XC26 (Large).
If I was to wager a guess I'd say it was bought in 2007. I took some photos which I'll upload in a minute (they may be of limited help though). Should I just strip it down for a better look?

Ok, that's definitely a threadless steerer, and probably 1 1/8", so the evans one wouldn't work. You can always find cheap Mosso forks on ebay.
Here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MOSSO-Aluminum-Rigid-Straight-Bicycle-MTB-Fork-26-DISC-V-Brake-WHITE-/150899275623?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23224c3767#ht_1446wt_762
This one's for v- and disc-brakes, but they do disc-only too. Shipping usually takes about 2wks.0 -
Can you get a cheapo supermarket bike off ebay, gumtree, or even freecycle, and nick the forks off that?0
