Garmin Edge 800 - displaying max HR

Having tried my new Edge 800 on a short 15 mile run today I'm quite impressed so far. I'm slowly setting up my screens but I note that it doesn't appear to be able to display my maximum heart rate. I'm not looking for a percentage of any laps, zones, etc. just the maximum reached on that activity.

I know the unit records this info as I can see the data when I upload to Garmin Connect, I just find it strange that there doesn't seem to be a way to display it on the unit itself.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?
Still trying to convince the missus of the n+1 rule...!

Does it, or does the web site calculate the highest value in the data set after you have uploaded your ride? I don't know for sure either way but as it's not available to display I suspect that it's a feature of Garmin Connect not the Edge 800.
  • Perhaps it does, although considering what data the unit itself can calculate and display, I'd have thought max HR would be on the list. Not to worry though, still a cracking bit of kit.

Don't think you can display while you are on your ride but you can find it on the unit after the ride has been saved in Menu\History\Activities

Just looking through the HR display options and there isn't a straight max display, the closest is % of Max.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

It's certainly tracked in garmin connect when you upload, both at a split and overall level. Not tried on the device itself to display.

Why do you need to have your maximum attained HR on display? All you need is either current HR, % HR or zonal HR and perhaps average HR but if you want to check your highest attained HR during a ride, just go into the menu, history and it should display that days ride with one of the readings being max HR.

That's a bit odd - on my Bryton all that sort of parameter info can be displayed - max, min and zone. Wonder why Garmin didn't give the option.

He gets everything except the max HR hit whilst riding. He can see what it is during a ride by scrolling the history, but I fail to see what value it is during a ride.

  • Knowing maximum hear ride during the ride isn't going to particularly helpful.

Especially as Garmin HR strap are renowed for giving spikes in the data, espiciallly in the first few miles before you've warmed up
  • If you press the lap button, it's displayed on the lap info page.

  • I agree it's not critical that it is displayed during a ride, it's just something I noticed wasn't available and I was curious whether it was a Garmin thing, or me. Needless to say, it's a Garmin thing. Cheers for the replies :)

Must try that, I too am curious about seeing the Max HR attained at the end of the ride (agree its a bit useless during the ride). the only way I can currently see it is after I've uploaded to Garmin.
