Autumn project - component swap

I normally hang around the road section but do have a couple of MTBs which get used from time to time.
I have a GT Avalanche hard tail and a Commencal full Sus.
I've had the great from new and love the position but the brakes are side pulls and a bit tired. I wouldn't trust them on a day at Glen Tress.
I bought the commencal from a mate but cannot get used to the ride either the position or the feel of full suspension. It just feels wrong and inefficient.
I am thinking of moving all components from the Commencal to the GT (except the rear suspension of course) and selling the Commencal frame and rear sus and possibly cleaning up the GT components and selling them on.
I've measured the distance between where the steered tube goes into the headset and the headset cap on both bikes and they seem to be the same. This suggests the forks will also transfer.
What pitfalls do I need to look out for with this project? Better to be prepared.

Just have to keep checking parts fit - set post, cables, seat clamp, front mech, bottom bracket, and so on. Swap the better parts that fit. Some of the standard GT parts though will be pretty good.
Also check drivetrain compatibility ie speeds.0
