Hi,

I have seen the Giant Escape RX1 2011/12 for £556. I'm thinking of buying it as a commuting bike.

Has anyone had any experience with the Giant Escape RX1???

  • Seems like a good bike on paper:
    1: Has rack mounts.
2: The R440 shifters are amazing, mine are still going strong after 27,000 miles.
3: Has 32mm tyres, suitable for towpaths.
4: Has 32 spoke wheels, should be strong.
5: The Octalink BB system is the best BB system in my opinion.
6: The gears have a very wide range, you'll be the fastest.
    7: V-brakes are powerful
    8: A bargin at £556.

    Enjoy!
  • or you could get road bike

you can also fit mudguards to this which if you're commuting year round will be a godsend. Also if you buy a flat barred bike you'll be back on here in six month bemoaning the fact you didn't buy a bike with drop bars. Believe me - it's a fact.

oh and it's cheaper - or you could go for the Defy 4 for a bit more.

Was going to go for a boardman team or pro but they're all sold out so looks like I'm just going buy a defy 1. There are too many bikes to choose from it gets confusing! But everything I've read about the giant defy 1 has been positive so that's what I'm going to buy.

    Thanks
  • good choice, think it won the best bike at £1k a while back. Nice that you've doubled your budget!
