Need help choosing

Hi, wondering if some of you could give me your opinions.

Been looking last few days at getting a MTB.
I`m a complete novice, just looking to get into riding as primarily a form of fitness (cycling seems only thing i can do right now that doesn`t hurt my dodgy back) and hopefully move onto a longer/more serious form of activity.

I was thinking trying to get a good 2nd hand bike as cheap as possible, but since i know next to nothing, and i havn`t seen any stand out local good deals, i`ve sort of settled on a decent new beginner bike.
Two ive found i seem to like are

Does anyone have any pointers , or recommendations on things i should be aware of, or even different bikes for around 300-400 quid?
