Categorising Hills/Climbs?

I have been training on various different hills of late in training for The Exmoor Beast and a few other Sportives,
I have all of my stats which tells me how long the hills are and how much i have climbed etc. However, i have been trying to see if i can discover what Category Hills i have been training on by using my stats just for personal knowledge and to see how i can benchmark these hills that i am training on against various other hills on The Exmoor Beast and other Sportives / Races throughout the UK? I was confused watching the Tour of Britain when the commnetator commented and said that there was a category 1 Climb they were approaching when it was only 1.25 miles long where as the Category 1 Climbs in Le Tour are Miles and Miles and Miles,
From what i have read it seems to be a bit confusing?
I understand that they take into account, Road Condition, Distance of Hill and Gradient (%) of the Incline of the hill?
Can somebody Pleeeeeeease help me in Trying to Categorise the Hills/Climbs that i am Training On please? Surely there must be some sort of formula?

Can find a link to how the TdF classifies them but for comparitive figures you could try salite.ch or www.climbbybike.com. The TdF category isn't an absolute as it can sometimes vary depending on the whole parcours for the stage.0

MAP MY RIDE gives categories for certain climbs (with an explanation as to how it derives those categories) and there are plenty of pages giving an insight into how the TdF KoM climbs are categorised if you google it.0

"there must be a formula"
first buy a 2cv...my isetta is a 300cc bike0 -
The ToB has its own system for categorising climbs, if Grand Tour criteria were used most of the climbs would end up not being categorised for being 4 at the most.0

I wondering how they did it because the Alstonefield climb on stage 2 was a cat 1, while the climb out of Oakamoor on stage 5 was a cat 2, i do both on a regular basis and Oakamoor is a hell of a lot worse than Alstonefield.0
