Doing some research into FMCG trends.

Came across this beauty, (figuratively).

Three consumer industries/firms have been doing particularly well in the recession.

Blockbuster/lovefilm/video rental shops/services.

Luxury food - mainly 'treat's like chocolate etc.

Durex.

So couples are staying in, watching 9 And A Half Weeks and acting out what they see on the screen. I guess quite a few of them will not be using an anti proliferation device, so expect there to be a post-Olympic baby boom.

People can't afford to go out or socialise, so they stay in, watch a film on their own, gorge themselves with chocolate to make up for the gaping emotional black hole inside them and then have a "poshw*nk" whilst sobbing into the empty Thornton's box?

    Just me then....

  • Quite a common trend through history. Look at birthrates just after recessions.
