So the Tour of Britain completely smashed my segment.

Until Monday the KOM's time for this segment was 40 secs and my current PB is 50 seconds. I log in yesterday and see loads of pro's have topped the leaderboard with times of 37 seconds and they were probably only coasting in the peloton!

A 40 second downhill appearing next to "KOM" fairly exposes just how silly strava can get doesn't it?

The KOM leads by producing 161watts for 37 secs, although obviously in the peloton. Looking at the other rides, looks like 160 watts gives you a time of 50 sec!

And yes, someone created the segment in the wrong direction!

  • Fiddle sticks - that'll be hard to beat - they had a tail wind as well, I'd have loved them to have gone up billinge hill :D

To show you what damage the headwind did have a look at the kom's for just round the corner up to the redcat pub

kom still held by a st helens cc rider.

and then a long flat run into Kirkby

    but once again....fiddlesticks. :x

Not really. They just need to perhaps rename KOM. Nothing wrong with downhill sprint segments surely?

    No, nothing at all

So you think going uphill automatically makes the segment safe? So what happens when a fat dude keels over from a heart attack trying to break his PB? Sue Strava? Get a grip. We are all responsible for our actions.

:edit: the strava segment referred to in the OP is downhill then flattens out for a fair while so is reasonably safe!

They came by a couple I've ridden past Kendal. Shap Descent I'm well off the pace (I haven't got the balls to hit 40 mph+ when there's traffic around), but one through the middle of Kendal I'm still in the top ten, of 104, which is some kind of miracle. I can't do it that quickly in a car, because of the usual traffic.

If strava set up the segments they would have a point. Given its users who create them then even in America I think this is pushing it. Condolences to the family etc, but no-one forced him to speed.
