So can anyone tell me anything about my bike, first road bike. I've changed the brakes and given myself a lower gear because I have a huge hill to get up using it on my uni commute with a heavy laptop.
It's not in good condition at first glance so it shouldn't get stolen but I think it might be a really nice bike. Can anyone tell me anything about it? Once I graduate I might strip it and refurb it if it's worth it or sell it if it'd give me enough for a decent road bike.
The stem being stuck in the fork is a pain because I'd really like to replace them with a stem adapter and a modern stem so I can fine tune my position but there you go!
If anyone is interested in buying it then make me an offer but that's not why I've put it up, just want some info about it really so I don't spend loads more on it than it's worth!!
Pics:
Frame: Steel, funny joins and plenty of surface rust and touch up paint
Forks: Steel, seized to the quill stem too
Bars: Original, alu? Say Dawes and made in great britain on them
Stem: Original quill, says made in GB on it
Front Brake Lever: Shimano RX100 I think but the sticker has come off, is that original? I'd guess not
Front Caliper: Miche performance dual pivot (Had to drill out fork crown to fit recessed fitting)
Rear Brake Lever: Ditto
Rear Caliper: Textro single pivot, definitely not original. When I bought it it had a weinmann Rayleigh 610 centre pull that was suicidal!!
Shifters: Downtube mounted RX100, friction left and indexed seven speed right
Front Mech: Shimano Dura Ace (original?)
Rear Mech: Cheap MTB long cage to accommodate mega range cassette (will be used for commuting in Sheffield)
Seat: Look in gel or something
Cranks: Strong light square taper (original?)
Cassette: 12-34T megarange
Pedals: MTB SPDs at the moment
Wheels: Compaglano or something
Tire: Btwin
Weight: Lighter than my MTb which is 13kg, maybe 11kg or so

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112501 Looks like a very nice bike in it's day, especially if it's specced out with RX100 and dura ace!0

Thanks, I took a short cage RX100 rear mech off too so I'll keep that incase I end up using it somewhere a bit flatter. Trying to get my head around the heirachy of groupsets, getting there gradually!!0
