Mehning Losers!

Well, yesterday was a fun day. Really good turn out at my uncle's funeral, I suppose that's what happens when you die aged 54. Anywho, I got to see my Irish cousins, so that was good, and I'm arranging a trip over there now. I might plan a trip with a bike at some point, I believe there are some good hills over there!

Today, I find out just how useful my minion was, as she returned to work yesterday after being off for a couple of days, but I think she went home early. We shall see.

Laters!

  • Morning mongs!

Thought about going out on the road bike last night, but decided against it as the local Highways Maintenance 'tards decided to top dress the 3 miles of road out of town and then not sweep it. Cars were sliding around all over the place so trying to get anywhere on skinny tyres would have been suicide.

Workmeh again today, not helped by another salad for lunch, but at least I can get into my jeans again after a summer of eating and drinking far too much.

A day of head down and get on with it today I think in hope that the weekend will arrive quicker.

Booked a week off for Christmas so that's something to look forward to.

  • Morning homos.

In addition to my usual workmeh, today marks day 1 of my campaign to get my employer to do 2 things.
    1. Let us have a proper, company funded cycling club, complete with support and race entries (team kit would be good too).
    2. Offer an equivalent to the C2W scheme (which IOM companies are not eligible for due to different rules on tax)

The above are things I've requested a number of times over the last 5 years, but never really put any effort into driving forward.

The plan is to push my company (one of the biggest employers on the island) to drive cycling over here by getting them to invest more (time and money) into local trails and event sponsorship.

Day of explaining to our customer how we managed to balls up their order so badly today, fortunately I wasn’t doing the procurement at the time. Sadly I am now so have to clear up the mess and try to get them back on side!!

    Afternoon Monkey Spankers,

Been out for supplies and to drop the bike of at the LBS for some fettling that I'm not capable of doing  . Now got a nice portion of fish & chips on the go, then time to get job hunting again - market seems to be picking up properly now after having zero calls over the summer hols/Olympics.

  • 1. Let us have a proper, company funded cycling club, complete with support and race entries (team kit would be good too).

I've tried getting sponsorship and team kit from our parent company (which prides itself in it's Environmental, Sustainability and CSR policies), the answer was simply 'we don't involve ourselves in this sort of event'. It seems the only people who get anything are 10 year old scrotes who play football for Paedo United.

Luckily however our MD leaves in March so he's being a right pain in their necks, stumping up the cash for me to do the London-Paris ride, with our logo, as long as I agree to be in the parent company Magazine. :D I'm waiting for him to come back from leave so that I can try for some of the Thetford winter series and the D2D as well.

  • See, I'm pretty hopeful. Our lot are well into the commutity spirit thing. We sponsor pretty much everything going. Plus, one of our competitors has a MTB team and invests a little into events so I'm hoping that might spur them on a bit.

We're well into the "great place to work" and all these "wellbeing initiatives" and all that hippy guff. It usually involves them distributing toothbrushes round the office, or having national pet month or some crap like that. I just want them to invest their time and effort into somethign that people will actually respond to.

Plus if I get a nice shiny new bike out of it, and my race entries paid for the year, bonus!
  • lol, just received a reply back from the person in charge of our wellbeing initiatives. There are some positives in there regarding the formation of a club, but it sounds mostly like a brush-off for the cyclescheme.

    Things like:

I know historically we have kept away from sponsoring anything to do with cycling (ie favoring conor cummings and the TT, rather than Cav) I might be totally wrong, as I don't know much about cycling at all, but there is a perceived link with cycling and drugs and 'they' didn't want to associate the brand with that??

I know that statement to be utter boIIocks for a start (putting aside the fact she's talking about road cycling and not MTB). As I know both Connor, and the person involved in signing his deal (it's a small island).

With the cyclescheme, they start spouting off about infrastructure first "What happens if 30 people start cycling into work, do we have the space for all those bikes"
errrrrrrm, yes, because there will be 30 free parking spaces. Use 5 of them.
"Would we have enough shower facilities"
We currently have 3 shower cubicles for men, I assume the same for women too. I'd imagine that to be fine.

"Need to speak with legal about impact on the company, say if some one was hurt on their way in to work on a bike we paid for and encouraged people to use."
Seriously? This is differnt from someone having an accident in a company car because......????

"Also a framework of, if for example, we pay for a bike out right and an employee pays the company back in installments via their salary, what happens if the bike is stolen? "
Riiiiiight, clutching at straws a little there arent we?

Still, I'm not giving up. I've written a very lengthy response, detailing the IOMs recent achievements in the TdF and the Olympics, and the fact that if the queen sees fit to endorse cycling (and Cav) by giving him an MBE, perhaps we can get past ancient drug scandals (Lance aside).

I've also pointed out that if we're going to get into discussions about images of sports, she should have a think about us promoting an event that's cost around 240 lives vs one that promotes healthy living.

This being the CC though, what I'm going to do now is go leave her with her head on backwards and just embezzle enough money for a few bikes.
  • Update on the Minion front: She's been off ill all day. Apparently she was in yesterday until about 11am when she was physically sick. Seriously, if she's having a sprog, I'll push her down the stairs! Terrible time for her to be off sick, I don't have time for this!

CWNT- That sounds like a bullsh1t response! I find it a bit funny when an online casino company, set up on an island with its own tax laws, then tries to take the higher moral ground on something. 3 Showers should be enough, build more bike spaces, put a clause out that they're not responsible for any accidents, and that if it's stolen, they still have to pay for it! How difficult is it? Fukctards.

  • We're an online Poker company thank you very much mr Moral indignation.

And we're fully licensed and regulated in a number of Markets including IOM, UK, Italy, France, Spain & Belgium to name but a few. Hardly a mob funded indian casino is it.

I could understand them not wanting to get involved with anything iffy purely from a global PR perspective. But when you look at how strict the drug tests are in Pro Cycling these days, that argument just dosent hold water imho.

Besides, that's road cycling, not MTB (Missy Giove notwithstanding), so I duly pointed out that we've had a string of World Champions, both male and female in DH MTB, so maybe we should stick some money into that instead.

The best part though is hat I never even mentioned pro sponsorship. I only wanted a social club (registered with british cycling to give the option to put on races at a later date) and a cyclescheme. Investing in development of the sport on the island was going to come after all this was set up  .

Casino/Poker meh, it's all the same really. If it's not in Rhyll, then it isn't legit! ;)

You should use that as a point though in your case. Many people see online poker companies as illegal drug-trafficking-murdererd who rape little children and hide their bodies whilst in Portugal, but you know the truth. Many people see cycling as a drug fuelled steroid paradise where everyone is doing their best to be better than the others by taking more and more drugs, but you know better.

It's been a long day, but I kind of know what I mean in my head. Basically, ditch+head(Backwards)=ditch.
