Unusual places to live: boats / camper vans etc...

A few years ago, I investigated the practicalities of living on a house boat. From time to time, I daydream about maybe taking off in a mobile home. Has anyone ever lived in an unusual place - boat, camper van, tree, wheelie bin - for any length of time? How did it go?
