New rims required...

Hi,
Currently I have Sun ringle MTX 34's laced to Atomlab GI hubs, and aquired some Rhyno Lite 27's laced to Joytech hubs(urgh!). These are plenty strong/Beefy enough for my old AM/FR bike but too Weighty for my HT DB Alpine
I'm looking for some new "lighter" rim's that will be at home on my DB alpine frame and laced to some Hope pro2's. they need strong enough to handle my 95+ Kg carcass and my tendency for heavy landings..... plus running 2.35-2.5 tyres.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

sun equaliser 31's (have a set on hope, no sideways landing has broken them yet)0 -
Thanks, but they are the same weight as my current rims.... though the equalizer 27's might be worth a look.0

Mavic 721 or maybe the new Stan's Flow EX?0

Have had no probs with the EN521s on my Ramones. Merlin build super stiff but not harsh. Very very tough0

the EN521's are a contender but not much lighter than the ryno lites...
Has anyone experience of the superstar components full wheels builds?? (same price as a pair of hope hubs!!)0 -
Stan's Arch EX are plenty tough enough and lighter (but narrower) than the Flows. Very happy with my Superstar build, spot on."Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

What does that mean, exactly?0 -
The wheels were built on XT hubs by Merlin. They are nice and tight and rock solid but they don't feel harsh

Still lost, sorry.
I'd expect every wheel build to be nice and tight and rock solid. Otherwise, it is loose and floppy and coming undone, which is the end of the wheel and time for a rebuild.
Can you explain what "not harsh" and "don't feel harsh" means?
Or if not that, what about the opposite - how would I know a "harsh" wheel if I found one?0 -
Wheel flex is due to the spoke length, spoke gauge, and rim stiffness. As long as the wheel has 'adequate' tension for it to be a good build, a really tightly laced wheel is no stiffer than your adequate one, as the modulus of elasticity of the parts does not change.0

Nukeproof/MTX 29 rims (same rim, just one is cheaper than the other at certain times). Easily handle my 105 kg mass and heavy landings and the DH I do on my Marin, actually found them stronger than the Superstar DH rims although that is probably to do with the build. I run mine with 2.25-2.5 tyres no problems.
Also run an MTX 33 on the back of my Rocky which seems to be about the same strength, just wider so if they are treating you well already then go for the MTX 29, just make sure you get them well built. I got mine built on a Pro II Evo and it's a very strong combo which isn't too heavy (slightly lighter than 721 rims).0 -
a superstar/arch EX combo would be my bet for that kind of bike, have crests on my 456c and Mojo HD and do the job brilliantly, but if I was having another set it would the arch Ex's0
