Nope. Here's my Spesh SL with Dura Ace kit, 53/39/30 and a 11-23 on the back!

I ride a 53/39, 11-23 as few hills down south which im quite happy with. Next year though im looking for a triple for hillier rides away and longer distances.

Quite happy with the idea of 53/39/30, but wondering if a 50/39/30 would make a better sense over longer hillier rides ??? What do ya reckon ???

It won't lower your lowest-gear any, just make it possibly easier on the flats, when you are in the big chainring. I seldom feel any need (or desire) for either a 53-tooth chainring or an 11-tooth cog on the cassette

As Hoopdriver says, to change the 53 to a 50 is only really going to make any difference on the flat and it can be quite a good change to make. I used to run a 50/39 on a winter bike a few years ago and quite liked it.

My Spesh Tarmac as pictured was built with riding in the mountains in mind. I have a 53/39 with a 11-23 which is fine for riding over in this country and then have a 30 11-23 for the mountain passes. Don't have to change the cassette to something bigger, which is what I used to do with the bike I had before I got the Spesh.
