clickfast liners - why?

Just purchased a pair of baggies with liners that attach to them - why would I bother?

I have some endura shorts that have 12 small poppers that you can spend 10 mins finding and clicking for no discernible benefit. But the shorts that promped me to ask are polaris - they have 2x 2inch loops that pass through loops on the liner and fasten.

The endura ones have the dubious possible claim of helping keep the baggies up if they are loose as they attach directly - but the polaris ones would hang so low that even this possible claimed use holds no water. All they do is remind you half way through removing the outers that you have attached them to the inners

Does anyone know the real reason these things exist??

well you could own 2 liners and 1 pair of shorts, handy for a weekend biking when its wet

you can wear the liners as liners and wear any other pair of shorts you like on top

you could wear the shorts without a liner if you wanted

you could worry about something that actually makes a difference.......
  • If it takes you 10 minutes to clip the liners into the outer shorts, you must be rather ham-fisted.

The liners are like that so you can take a couple of pairs of liners with you and one pair of outer shorts on a weekend ride. Or even switch the liner between various other pairs of Endura shorts
  • estampida - I think you may have missed his point. It seems to me like the question is more about why the manufacturers bother making them attach to shorts in the first place.

dhobiwallah - I've got some shorts (Altura I think) that have the little loop thingy too, and I don't see the point either. The Endura ones seem to do a pretty decent job of keeping the shorts where they should be though.

I mainly just grab the first pair of shorts and the first liners I come to in the drawer.

    hang on

so you are mixing and matching liners and shorts.......... why why why is there a discussion about this

If you wonder why there isn't a universal fitting for them, well that's a trade secret

I agree, clickfast liners are a total waste of time (and assumedly money too - they must add cost). Liners work better without them.

Again, you've missed the point. The question isn't why there isn't a universal fitting, it's why would you want to attach the liner to the shorts in the first place?

I have enduro clickfast liners and shorts and i don't use the clickfast things, I just wear them, don't see the point myself either.

  • I dont get why youd want to attach your liners to your shorts. I dislike shorts with built in (as in non removeable) liners. I have a pair of Fox Sergeants which came with removeable liners - the liners are good and work with any other short, the shorts are great and work well without the liner for DH or with for xc. Bit warm for xc.

My other liners are just Altura universal jobs that can be used with any shorts.

Exactly, that seems to be what the OP is getting at too.

If you're the kind of person who will lose your shorts unless they're attached to your pants, you'll probably not be out without your carer anyway, so I just can't see a situation where they'd come in handy.
  • I adore estampida. Contrary to the usual annoying spazwangles, his special brand of understanding is disarmingly funny

Anyway, I also don't understand why the hell you'd want liners that attach in any way to the outer short. One pair of fox shorts I bought came with liners attached by two sort of tag things, with cut marks on them to remove. I guess that's to stop or deter people stealing the liners from shops or something.

To be fair he is from Belize so I imagine there may be a language barrier in the midst of the misunderstandings.

According to the lbs they are to stop the liner falling down inside the baggies when they're hanging up in the shop :)

Would be more of an excuse if English wasn't the official language of Belize..... :? It being British Honduras and all :D

Anyway I think the majority agree with me that they are a complete waste of time - the lbs explanation that they are for display purposes is probably the closest to an actual real use for them.....
  • I find that if I have liners that DON'T attach to the outers they ride down over the course of a ride and I have to keep stopping to hitch them up.

My Endura Humvees have clikfast liners and with these I don't have a problem.

If I'm not wearing the Humvees I wear bibshorts as liners, to prevent the same problem.

As for being a pain to attach - takes me about 30 seconds.

Don't be daft. That just means they're too large for you.
Do you also wear braces attatched to your boxer shorts? No, of course not.

Hmmm, bibshorts are loads comfier than non-bib undershorts. They stay in place better, but I don't bother clicking my liners into place.

Oh right, so I must have been buying the wrong size clothes for years then. Maybe it's yours that are too small? Hence it's cutting off the blood supply to your brain...

I agree, they are a waste of time. Much better to wear proper (lycra) cycling short - especially bib shorts; if you are an MTB fashion vicitim then you can always cover with baggies
