My First adventure up Cannock in years....

Well today i went up cannock for the first time in quite a number of years and my how its changed, and not to mention how awful my ridings got since last picking up a bike 6 years ago!
Ive just recently purchased my first mountain bike as a bit of a project and to see if ive still got the thirst for it. Because of a few slight tweaks i want to do with the bike i decided id hire one from Swinnerton who are the local hire place for cannock. The bikes are Giant Talons, hydraulic brakes the usual guff but my one major gripe was the state of the forks, they were abysmal! They had lockout but it made no difference at all, they just did what they felt like and sometimes the lockout decided to slip of its own accord which was very annoying and they were that stiff the forks may as well of been rigid.
I am glad i hired a bike though as i put it through quite a bit of abuse.... but i was ashamed of myself because of a) my fitness levels at how shocking they were and b) how much of the basics id actually forgot, at one point i forgot to keep the pedals level and as a result caught a tree stump on a flat road which nearly sent me flying off in front of a bunch of girls who were leisurely jogging the opposite way  needless to say i was a little upset with myself!
After a little while i got into the swing of things though and started to get a little more confident, finding my lines and getting to grips with correct breaking, apart from on one occasion which i sent myself into a thorn bush over the top of a ridge. I laughed and the people behind me saw it and thought it was pretty spectacular, what was worse he had a helmet cam.... so coming to a You've been framed/youtube near you shortly.....
All in all im very sore, covered in scratches and a little bit bloody and bruised but what a awesome day for it! I will be going up there again very shortly thats for sure. Probably on my own bike though as my back, arms and shoulders couldnt take another day of abuse from that god awful suspension. I sense a very expensive habbit developing.....
