With a jersey on how do they look any different than cycling shorts?

    1) The elasticated waist line doesn't dig in to you
    2) They don't slip down and show your builders bum
    3) They normally have a pocket on the rear to put your team radio

    4) They allow your jersey to ride up without your back getting a draft
    5) They are 5x more comfortable than shorts
    6) You are very childish if they look "Mega Gay"

Judging by your post the other day I would have thought that the mega gay look would be reason enough?

Only if you wear them without, or over your jersey, then you just look like a pr*ck.

If you want to try a cheap pair first then these are really good for £20 delivered.

I use them for after work training rides but they seem comfortable enough up to 3 hours.

  • I thought if you want to look mega gay you grow a mustache and wear lumberjack shirts or Rapha city wear. I have not seen any gay men in bib shorts unless there are some in the pro peloton.

    Statistically, there should be.

I'm reminded of the Spanish MTB team at the Olympics, just now. Dodgy 'taches there.

  • Here's a suggestion. Put on your non-bib shorts and ride a century. Then do the same with bibs.

    7) they keep the pad in place better than shorts
8 ) when the cold nights draw in and you decide cycling is no longer for you they can be worn with no jersey so you can pretend to be your favourite wrestler.

It amazes me that folk on road bikes can be so anti-lycra. My neighbour has just bought an S Works project black SL3, but rides in mtb shorts. Each to their own I guess.

On the other side of the fence, i don't get why other middle aged, porky people think it is acceptible to subject passers by to their attrocious lycra / budgie smuggling combo. If you're jst keeping fit on a road bike, then you don't need the last word in aero kit - so why not just wear mtb shorts and have the best of both worlds?
