Hi all I am getting a Shimano R064 and want to know what kind of cleats to get for it. So what do I get? Are the Red/yellow cleats interchangable? Whats up with the colour code and why is it important? Should I be worried about the road bike I am getting on the C2W scheme been compatable with the cleats? They are Wellgo clipless pedals.

As I understand it yellow Shimano cleats have some degree of play and allow you knee to move about a bit, these are what I have. Red ones have zero play so if you're cleats aren't perfectly set up you'll cause knee problems through shear stress.

If this bike is for commuting you'd be better with SPD cleats as they're far easier to get into. I'd never use SPD-SLs on a commuter. Plus you can't walk any distance in SPD-SLs without ruining the cleats.

  • You would probably want wellgo cleats for wellgo pedals?

In which case the Wellgo RC7B are the equivalent of Shimano SH11 with 6degrees float.
