Here is a strava segment near me called 'got lost' which records a 100m section of road on which apparently I've attained speeds of 114.6kph. They guys at the top of the table are hitting speeds of 343.8kph like this guy - http://app.strava.com/rides/13784466#253232901

Is there something in the water in Devon that makes us ride so fast? Should Dave Brailsford be sending a talent scout out to this part of the world? Or is a more mundane software glitch to blame?

  • This happens quite a lot when you lose GPS lock. There's a tunnel round here where I regularly reach speeds approaching 500 mph, apparently.

If you're using a phone based app, turn your phone to flight mode or aeroplane mode, that way it'll just record GPS data. This should give you better results and better battery life.
All the above is just advice .. you can do whatever the f*ck you wana do!

  • I tried flight mode on Friday on my iPhone 4S but it didnt record any data, only the start and finish whilst it was on? I use cyclemeter.
  • Noticed some weird/dodgy stuff this eve.

On a nice climb near me I managed to get a good second place today. Then I checked over the ride this even and saw three guys had dropped me down the charts. But it looks very strange. There are two versions of the climb - a shorter one and a comple one.

Look at the guy in second place on the full climb - he did it in 6:05

Yet on the shorter version he's in 10th place at 6:37

    How does that work?

Because on the shorter steeper version he stopped pedalling as the end point was further over the peak of the hill. Performance data looks a bit odd but it looks like he did a bit of circling/ wairting then carried on.
