Video recording - is it legally admissable?

I only started to ride and I already had few encounters with total morons driving cars. I would not hesitate to kick their arse but it is not possible to do that while you on a bike and he/she is in landrover.

I just saw small lightweight cameras. If I record offensive/dangerous driving and send it to the traffic police - will it have any effect?

P.S. 90% of people cannot drive, they just following a routine. if anything is outside the routine (like a cyclist) they have no idea how to deal with it. all is on the luck.

P.P.S. I know that video made without specific conditions (like signs around that the area is covered by cctv) is not admissable in courts. but may be traffic police can act on it without getting to a court?

so it seems it may have some effect. however looking at the video I realised that I could potentially become a grumpy arse flooding the police with stupid complaints :) may be i need to reconsider buying the camera :)

You probably need to chill out a bit more.
  • I had a friend who had CCTV in their home. They were burgled. The videos clearly showed the defendants face in court but because the CCTV footage didn't show time and date it could not be used as evidence to that crime!
This was 10 years ago though,...

However if you get confronted by an angry driver I'm sure if you pointed the camera out to them they would think twice about their next comment/action.
  • Cycle Camera TV There's a whole network of cam cyclists who regularly report/roadsafe/TFL bad drivings.

So yes, decent quality footage can be used in court for prosecutions.

I agree, vast amounts of terrible cyclists out there too.
  • whats your point gezebo? did i say let cyclist rule the world? if people endanger other people life by not knowing how to drive this is my right to rise my voice.

once you are injured to the point that you cant work, your wife left you or you are just killed like poor vicar in the other thread. i am sure you would have differewnt opinion.

i drive a lot, i drive heavy cars in different conditions and i am ex pro cyclist. i know both sides of this story. so if you dont have anything positive to add to the road safety please feel free to chill quietly.

where did you read this? Or are you just guessing based on personal experience?

as per previous comment, calm down/chill out a little.

It was a valid point, there are terrible cyclists who blame everyone bar their own stupidity and lack of knowledge on rules of the road the same as there are people in cars/vans/trucks who blame cyclists/pedestrians or other road users when they harm them. swings and roundabouts.

My point was quite simple, there are plenty of idiot cyclists out there too. Maybe not 90% of them, but still a fair few. That's something I'm sure a former pro-cyclist would be well aware of and had more than a few encounters with bad drivers.

Anyway, video recording does get used in court and has helped convict drivers. I'm sure a bit of googling would help you in this respect.

Maxima - if you're an ex pro surely you've done thousands of miles on the road anyway ?
Some drivers are idiots but most are fine. I don't think it's got any worse suddenly ? If anything it should be safer as there is more of us around.
Nobody's out to get you - I think relaxing will help you more than ranting.
