suspension fork travel

Hi,
I'm thinking of replacing my forks. The original forks have 100mm travel, so I guess that the frame was designed with this travel length in mind.
I was wondering if I need to buy forks with the same travel or can I go for a longer travel fork? Will a different size knock out the geometry, spoiling the ride?
What if I got some adjustable travel forks and set them at 100mm, would that make everything nice and balanced?
Hope I explained myself well enough there.

You need to check the warranty on the frame in the first instance, they are only designed for certain length forks.0

Ok - unfortunately I bought the frame second hand so I don't know about the warranty. It is a kona caldera 2007.0

Up to 120mm should be fine.0
