I'm looking to get hold of some samples of radio communications traffic. Such as - US Army radio communications, British Army equivalent, US and UK police radio, minicab and truckers CB traffic etc.

Any ideas where I could download this sort of thing?? Bit of a long shot I know!

google sound effects, there are plenty of libraries

    for instance...

you can get free stuff too, but it's a bit like stock video, you get what you pay for

Looks good but I was hoping for like an hour or something rather than just soundbites

try googling for amateur radio clubs, someone with a scanner would be able to help you (although i think recording off air is dodgy legally if it's the police etc., but a lot of traffic is encrypted now)

I used to produce music a while ago and I have some samples of the moon landing comms somewhere. PM me is this is of interest.

If not, you're best bet is youtube, download an FLV/Youtube ripper to get the video onto your system, then download a video converter to rip the audio. There's a plugin for Firefox called VideoTap, then there is something called FLVConverter for the ripping part.

    Good luck.

Thanks all, will look into your links etc.

Moon landings sound great but really wanted terrestrial stuff mainly - thanks for the offer though
  • Plenty of Apps for listening to US police radio chatter in the iTunes store.

    Record them ?
  • I would imagine getting UK police chatter is hard, before encryption with the new tetra system conversations be usually full duplex unless it was an ongoing incident in which 'talkthrough' was required.

There are a lot of videos on you tube and live leak, the air crash in the Hudson River is amazing... I still can't get over the coolness of the pilot.
