Im running a double and bash (2x9) set up on my Giant Trance. 22 and 36 rings with an 11-32 cassette.

What are the benefits of going single ring?
What would i need to convert?

Main reasons for wanting to go single ring would be to get rid of chain slap and front mech noises.

Any advice welcome. Cheers

Single ring is simple, no front mech, no front shifter, no cable to worry about, so there are actually some weight savings to be had. If you don't need 2 rings why not go for one?

Just ditch the mech, remove the granny ring, and use some kinda of chain tensioner, guide kinda device, loads of them out there!! You may want to go for a bigger/smaller single ring though a 36 is quite common!

Go for a ride and stick in the 36 all ride and see if you miss the granny ring at all. best way to see if a single is way forward.

Not sure what front mech noises are, but apart from having fewer gears, it's not going to do anything about chain slap (stick on old innertube on the chainstay for that). I don't see much benefit once you've had to either leave the mech on or get a chain guide.

If you shorten the chain appropriately, whack on a short cage rear mech, a shadow + if possible, i reckon you could get away without a chain tensioner, but some kind of guide, or just the current front mech would be needed.

As most singles use a middle ring sized ring, shorteneing appropriately won't help as it won't be shortened at all.

The ONLY tensioner is the rear mech, what other tensioner you suggesting?

Yes a chain guide is needed.

    Waste of a post really!
