Never flow with them with bike before. Im taking only hand baggage and a bike bike that seems to be within the weight allowance. Is it really free or do I need to book it in ahead or hope to god theres space on the plane.

Bike bags are oversize and treated as "sports equipment" like skis or golf-bags - check your ticket conditions, but you'll likely have to pay a handling charge, typically £15-20 regardless of the weight. If you don't pre-book, there's a risk it'll get left behind if there's too much luggage.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Part of your hold baggage allowance.
World /euro traveller = 1 bag in hold free(23 Kg max)
so use your bike box in hold and any other luggage in cabin subject to your cabin baggage allowance
Club/first = 2 bags free
bike bag in hold plus 1 other bag in hold plus cabin baggage
CO2 cartridges best left at home.(you can only carry them for use on a personal lifejacket)
You may be asked if tyres deflated, but no need, they can be at" normal operating press" just like wheel chair tyres.
Very unlikely to be left behind if not pre booked.0 -
thanks for that0

Might be a bit late now, and dependant on where your flying to. But I think Virgin Atlantic still allow a bike bag for free on their flights. IIRC all sports equipment incurs no charge as long as you don take the piss. Two snowboard for one person would constitute TTP.
I strongly considered taking my bike to Boston in April as there was no charge, but it's so flat it didn't seem worth it for a week.Trek 1.1c (2012) - For commuting

Correct: Virgin don't charge for bike bags. I flew back from Joburg last month and there was no charge (SAA the same).0
