Changing to Gripshift from Shimano - How?

Hi.

I would like to return to gripshift, which is what my last 2 bikes had.

I currently have a full Shimano drivetrain including shimano shifters.

What do I actually need to replace so I can install the gripshift shifters? I am guessing the derailers? What about the cassettes etc

Thanks in advance.

Carl

just the shifters (if you get the shimano version). get the same speed as you have now.

if you want the cost of changing to Sram "GripShift" the yes shifters cables and at least the rear mech.

SRAM used to do Rocket and Attack Grip Shift shifters, which will work with your existing mech. Alternatively if you want to use the X.0 ones (and they are the nicest IMO) then you'll need a new rear mech as well.

How many rear gears do you have?

SRAM Centauri (? spelling) as well for Shimano.....

I have some 8speed SRAM MRX (shimano compatable) going spare!
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • FWIW ive just change to gripshift and am using the XO. £25 delivered from ze germans and the best shifting ive ever had by a country mile.

Forgot to say I run an X9 on my commuter (really declutters the bars) which i like, but still prefer levers (SRAM rockets) on my MTB!

    Which site or link please.
  • I am running a 3 by 9 setup.

So I need to replace the rear mech. What can I replace it with?

Are the rear cassette gaps the same? I don't have to change that as well, do I?

I would aslo be interested in the link!

Thanks for your help so far!

Cassette is the same, just need to match rear mech with shifters. Shimano with Sram named, or Sram with Sram numbered.

  • Thanks for all your replies so far!

    So if I buy:

    Gripshift 9 Speed Shifter
    Gripshift 3 Speed Shifter
    SRAM 9 Speed Rear Mech
    2 New Gear cables

This is all I need right?

I have looked for ones that might be compatible with the deore mech, but no luck.

Does anyone know the link to this german website that has the shifters for £25?

    Regards

the shifters come with cables normally but you will need outers and cutters.

  • Cheaper if you buy both. About £5 postage. Delivered in 3 days usually. http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1255/ ... speed.html

Then click the word Deutsh top right, choose English and United Kingdom and then press Speche to get the site in English if it's not already.

These are Cheaper and Shimano compatable... http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k1255/ ... speed.html

  • One last question - Can I mix the SRAM groupset ?

Eg can I mix the SRAM X7 rear mech with the X.0 shifters?

    Cheers
