I've looked at loads of threads and loads of websites and quite confused,
What I'm looking for:
- A torch (not headlamp and battery pack) that will last for 1hour on a full charge at full power.
- Replacement batteries (that slide in like any normal battery operated torch has).
- Charger unit
Ideally a the torch will have a decent spot beam as I have a powerful flood light on the bars.
Budget < £50
Thanks,

How about FENIX LD20 180 LUMENS (WATERPROOF) CREE XP-G LED (R5)?
On Amazon for £44.
About 2 years ago one of the magazines rated it highly. It's a spot rather than a flood and I use it mounted on the helmet for picking out specific objects. Easily lasts 2-3 hours.0 -

Is that light bright enough for off-road (in the forest) trail riding? (to be used in conjunction with a bar mounted flood)0 -
Just got one of these, or two of these to be accurate, I do notice that he has none left - but you can find similar ones all over the place, includes mounts and charger: for £50 you can get a lot more than 180 lumens.
Tested once so far on a (very) early morning run - more than enough power for country road descents at over 40mph, you can put one on spot & one flood, build quality looks OK but obviously can't comment on longevity. Seller has a website under the name of Torchy the battery boy and seems to know his stuff.0 -
This is an excellent 'Pro' quality flash light;

Get the bike mount for £6 - takes AAA batteries - I use rechargeable ones. This torch is indestructible!"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

...I know all the 'Lights' geeks on here will say you can get the same thing for half the price etc.
But just read all the reviews - these torches are used by police and other professionals. Batteries last for ever and it's silly bright and tough as nails"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

"What Lights" in the MTB Buying Advice links to the current discussion thread... second posting in this discussion is DIYs recommendations which include a 501b XML torch, charger, cells and mounts. I'm assuming you want this for your lid, so one of the lockblock style mounts or a diy elastic strap. In DIY's sig you will see his recommendations.
I have a 501b XML as a helmet lights, coupled with a P7 SSC on the bars. Very bright and 1 hour on full - though Medium is pretty bright.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

I use it in conjunction with a Magicshine flood on the bars.....just done the Gorrick 12:12 with it and no problems. I think it might have been in WMB - I remember seeing the review and purchased it on the back of that. I'm not so worried about lumens - I'm more interested in getting 2+ hours out of it. Depends what you are using it for.0 -

Yeah they do, my brother is a copper. They are crap. I gave him one of the 'cheap' ones with a proper P7 emitter and 18650 cell and he thinks it is 10 times better.0 -

For the budget I'd go for a ultrafire t6 xml torch (with batteries and charger) on the lid and a t6 xml bike light on the bars, you can get both for the £50budget, - what i did last year as didn't know if I'd get on with riding in the dark!
Great combo imo,Timmo.

They are much better than that Lenser thing! For a fraction of the price. Both torches I link to get an average of 4 stars, hardly bad!0 -
Well I think I'll get one and see how it fairs in a construction & offshore environment. They're certainly cheap enough
Although - think they might too bright for what I need them for - which isn't illuminating the countryside but just general torch duties"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Thanks, found it on eBay; is it the same thing?

I'll order it from there as it's easier0 -
Similar, a bit smaller! Also see the torch at the bottom of the link.0

Thanks for the help, I found this one on eBay and ordered it as delivery from this seller is a few days rather than a few weeks, seems a good price, if it's no good for mountain biking I'll either use it for commuting or just as a bright torch when out and about
Will be interesting to see just how long runtime will be on full power, at least it comes with a spare battery and I'm guessing I can get some spares quite cheap.0
