storing a road bike

Hi there, might be a stupid question but I am new to the road bike world having only ridden MTB before, but is it safe to store a road bike by hanging it from the front or rear wheel vertically against a wall as I have done with my previous bikes?
i ask only because the wheels are much thinner than previous bikes and I wouldn't like to be causing any damage to the wheel or any problems with the set up..
