Which chainset for my commuter

I need to replace the chainset on my commuter and am looking at either Deore or SLX. My key requirement is longevity.

Currently it's a triple with 48T on the outside ring and 175mm cranks. The SLX only has 44T but I suspect I can live with that. What I would like to know is what is the impact of going to a 170mm crank as it's £30 more on chain reaction for 175mm cranks.

Then there's the deore which has a 48T option and 175MM, does anyone have experience of both? I know SLX comes highly recommended but in terms of sheer brute wear resistance is it any better do you think?

I don't mind spending money on my MTB but spending on the commuter pains me, however if SLX will last longer and payback over time I'll wear it.

I'm asking here as these are MTB parts

99% of people cannot tell any difference in 5mm crank changes. i wouldn't worry about it.

Deore rings seem to last longer than SLX, but the bottom bracket less so. Cheap enough though.

exactly the sort of advice I needed. If Deore last longer then I don't need to worry about the 5mm

The slx has a touring crankset with 48 tooth outer. M660
