Last week I ordered my YT tues, from YT (Germany). I was under the impression that seeing as we are both in the EU, there would be no import tax.

Just googling YT tues, just for general info/pics etc and this came up http://www.dutycalculator.com/dc/75153535/sports-leisure/bikes-scooters/bicycle-with-both-wheels-size-63-5-cm/import-duty-rate-for-importing-yt-tues-2-0-from-germany-to-united-kingdom-is-15/

Is this a load of b0ll0cks or am I going to have to pay something?

    That's what I thought, but the site clearly says;

    Import to country - Country of origin - manufacture - Import duty rate - Sales tax rate
    United Kingdom - Germany - 15% - 20%

    that is what you would pay plus a handling charge if you were importing from outside the EU to the UK.

    Or (and I think this is where that site is coming from) you where importing an item that originated outside the EU (even though it's gone through Germany) AND it was on a commercial basis. Yours would be personal so that doesn't apply.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    nope. no tax to add but no vat to pay.

    looks like that site has been created by someone who is not EU based and has no idea on how things work.

    I beg to differ, my company import stuff (from outside the EU) that usually comes through Italy (for reasons too long to explain) they are often duty paid into Italy and then re-exported (and duty recaimed) they are then carneted across to the channel ports and when they enter the UK we pay tax and duty, sometimes we don't pay duty into Italy and carnet into italy as well, but still have to pay tax and duty when entering the UK, but as stated that ONLY applies to commercial activity.

    Agree though, that site is worse than useless if your moving stuff in the EU.

    but where are they buying from? itally or out side the EU? to me it reads as out side the EU and Itally is just a stop over.

    when I (my company) buy from outside the EU there is import tax plus vat. buy inside the EU nothing. you just dont have any VAT to clain back on your EU imports.

    PS i used to buy from most parts of the world.
