I'm new to cycling well serious cycling any way did lots when I was growing up and today on my way back home my rear trye went pop.
The irony is I had no spare inner tube or pump so had a humbling walk to nearest station.
On my way there I was passed by another cyclist who stopped to offer spares and help.

I doubt the man is on here but i'm passing on a big thank you to him and the cycling community in general as my experience so far is one of warmth and care from other members.

Whether riding my road or mountain bike, if ever I pass someone fiddling with their bike I always ask if they have everything they need.

Good to hear someone who appreciates such niceties :D

I always stop too, last year I gave a bloke an inner tube so he could get on his way. He offers to send me payment, but I said not to bother, return the favour for someone else one day. Pay it forward to to speak.

i rescued a guy with a flat at the local 10 mile tt a few months ago, when the missus had finished and her bike was tucked away in the back of the pick up truck we set off home down the a59 towards Preston, as we got to our turn off, which was almost at the furthest out part of the course, i saw a guy walking down the road pushing his tt bike minus any shoes on, looking a bit pissed off, i reckon he must have been about 5 or 6 miles from the start.
i just couldn't drive past him, when we pulled up to him, i think he thought we were going to rob him or something.
we put his bike in the back and took him back to his car, i told him to make sure he helped the next cyclist he saw in trouble by way of payment.

That's what I usually suggest, unless it's someone I see fairly often, then just replace it whenever.

I've never needed any help myself 'cos I'm unusually well prepared for emergencies. I stopped for one guy who had a snapped spoke; his jaw dropped when I produced half a dozen of them and a spoke key.

Yes. But you've got to be practical about it. A spork and mobile internet access takes care of that.

  • Nice stories.

I stopped to have a bite to eat and a drink. A guy stopped and asked if I had a puncture and needed help.

That made my day. How many motorists would stop if your car had a flat.

i can answer this one ZERO!!!

I am yet to have a puncture, but me and a friend were fiddling with our bikes on the side of the road and two roadies came past asking if we needed help. Road Cyclists are a friendly bunch, I come from a DH MTB background, i can saftely say that only 25% of people are that friendly...the rest are well.. ****
  • Well this is a community I am very happy to be part of and will do my best to represent it with the kindness I have been shown.
