Got notification yesterday that my ballot applicaton for Ride 100 next year has been accepted. Both my son and I are riding for Team Shelter, need to start pulling some sponsorship in. Pleased as punch and already looking forward to it.
Anyone else been accepted ?

Thought individuals won't be notified until next February.

Maybe the charity have been allocated a set amount of places.

As much as I'd like to go down that route it'd take the piss asking for sponsorship to do it.
  • Don't have too much of a problem with the sponsorship issue.
It is all for a very worthy cause, and as I run my own company many of my suppliers are only too willing to make a donation.

Yes, I always think that asking for sponsorship is sort of taking the mick a bit - unless it's something properly out of the ordinary for the person in question.

For instance, if I were to decide to run the London marathon next year, damn right I'd get sponsored. 42km is about 41.5km further than I've run in the last decade. But asking for sponsorship to ride 160km? Well, I did a 60km the other weekend, 105km at the start of July (real life has been irritatingly busy this summer). Should I have got myself sponsored for either of those?

I haven't been accepted/declined yet - fingers crossed, for me, until Feb I suspect. As said above, perhaps the charity places get confirmed early.

They're expecting 70,000 entries for 20,000 places - sounds a bit high to me, what do you think?

As for sponsorship, I won't bother but I do quite a bit for rugby charities so I'm always asking people. Can't take the mick too much!

Hmm - I'd be interested to see the "acceptance". I've had a notification that my application has been "accepted", but that's to go into the ballot.

They haven't (as far as I know) apportioned the charity places yet. Our charity was asked if we'd like spaces and we're going to be put in a ballot for charities - there were a whole range of options.
  • Hi mroli, maybe 'acceptance' was too looser a term, as my son and I will be riding for the charity Shelter and we have both had to sign a 'Deed of Gift' regarding sponsorship.
In this document it states that we both have each got a ' guaranted or gold bond place for Ride London 2013' so I think we are in, and looking forward to it.
  • I'm hopefully doing this ride, chosen MIND as my charity.

Maybe some charities are getting place confirmations out earlier than others?
