n+1 Winter bike buying

So, was on the turbo last night and the wife mentions about maybe I should go out more this winter (rather than annoy her constantly with the music blasting this year)
I mention I would have to buy a bit more kit... and also a winter bike, if she expects me to go out on non-dry days.
Her response - Do I have room to store it? Of course I do 8)
So what would people do, get a cheap geared hack, or a single speed?

Great news from Mrs brettjmcc!! Of course you have storage room!
I don't go for the "winter/summer" bike naming. I have a dry weather bike and wet weather bike.
As a year-round rider the wet bike gets used as much as the dry bike, across a whole year, so my strategy has been to invest in both equally. In the tradition of "n+1" I also have a dedicated ice bike with studded tyres for deep winter commuting duties!0 -
Relegate current bike to winter bike and buy something nicer0

the nicer replacement is a few years away when the big four-oh hits. The internal management has been informed of the large request coming in for a big spend... I am thinking SuperSix Evo frame build or similar
This is going to probably be cheaper, use and abuse style bike0 -
Ribble winter trainer? 750 or thereabouts with Shimano 105.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
Commuting / Winter rides - Jamis Renegade Expert
