First broken rear hanger

If i am going out for a longer ride i normally take a few spares, but took the dog out for a walk so didn't take anything and rear hanger broke. Wasn't too far from home, so wasn't too bothered about walking both back. Didn't realise how much of a pig it is as the whole thing just drags along the floor and hits the spokes. Had to improvise with some doggy bags to tie it out of the way. Then walking back down the nice trail we had came, you realise how narrow it is when your having to push the bike to one side of you. All the sticky out bits keep catching your legs. What i am going to do is to get some reusable cable ties and put them round the seat rails for one off get me homers like today. Although £15 for a replacement, not as dear as some of the others, ordered and hopefully here in a few days.

I have one of these: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=32466 as a key ring. Will always get you home (and if me you have 3 bikes you ride regularly is alot less hassle than having spare mech hangers for all three.A Flock of Birds

i always carried a spare hanger with me, occasionally 2, if one goes when your miles away youve either gotta go SS or walk it home :-( had to do it a couple of times, the emergency hangers are great too,
wrap a few layers of Ducktape around your pump too, always handy when you have issues like this, (i know you just popped out quickly so didnt take anything), also worth a couple of cable ties, did chuck all my normal bits in a saddle bag for those small trips, then just bung it in the bag for the longer ones, you know its always the short quickies thats gonna end in tears! hahah!Timmo.

Normally carry some spares (although not a spare hanger) have ordered some reusable cable ties, they will wrap nicely out the way on the seat rails for one offs.
Once i get the new one on, will have to get a spare. I might as well get the proper one for mine as its £14 compared to a temp for a tenner.
It was more the fact how inoperable the bike becomes without being able to tie it out of the way, even freewheeling it. At least i learnt locally0 -
