This needs to be in the buying advice FAQs - If you've bought a Hardrock or Rockhopper, get a pair of 100mm Recons for itSpecialized Roubaix Elite 2015

Well not entirely true..my '06 'hopper is much improved on a 120mm Reba (than the 105mm 'zocchi MX Comp that was on it when I bought it 2nd hand) but I don't know the geo difference between an '06 'hopper and a new Hardrock.
My bike was spec'd originally with a 100mm fork so my increase has been 20% Where as the OP's Hardrock comes with an 80mm fork and adding 50% on that seems too much to me the HA would be completely out and the BB would be a fair amount higher too"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I fitted a 100mm fork to my Hardrock which massively improved the way it rides. I wouldn't go any longer than 100mm though.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

cheers guys I think this has been pretty conclusive - 120mm it is then!
...joking!
thanks guys0 -
Seriously - if you think you are likely to need more travel it might be an idea to sell the Hardrock and add the fork money to that and try and get a more suitable bike. Would def make more sense than spending £250 on a fork and then realising the bike is not suitable a couple of month later"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Get a reba in 120, if you don't like it, space it down to 100mm. Sorted.A Flock of Birds
