Advice: new Campy kit for a 2003 Bianchi

Am running an 03 Bianchi Gold Race as my winter ride and the charm of a worn out 'engine' is wearing thin (damaged teeth, play in rear hub, etc). It's wearing the original 9 speed Xenon and the levers, brakes, crank-arms frame and wheels are good as gold.
Any recommendations on bringing back to standard without breaking the wallet? Assuming that a straight replacement for the 9 speed drivetrain / hubs / chain is required (but which one for this type of use and are there any cost-effective substitute parts to keep the bill viable)?
