Sorry for sounding silly but what's the top shamano models eg. SLX, deore, etc.

  • Saint and Zee are hard to categorise in to the general range though, since they're built like brick sh*thouses, for extremely hardcore use.

    "Off to one side" is the common description for this situation. There are one or two bits in these ranges I wonder about - I can see the point of DH-specific cranks or brakes, but why should the shift levers be any different?

  • Shorter levers so they're less likely to catch on your hands when you get bounced about, tougher, to survive inevitable crashes, that kind of stuff.

    If there's DH specific parts are there any XC specific parts ie. shifters derailers cranks etc???

    yes and no. there are stronger parts but that does not stop other bits being cross used.
