I just bought a Raleigh Record Sprint for £50 the guy said it was all how he bought it nearly 30 years ago apart from a flatbar he put on it.
The thing is there seems to be a lot of variation with this model with regards to decals, chainset, RD etc.
I've seen black/gold chainsets, all black (mine) and chrome, and 4 diff sets of decals.
Everything is suntour on my model but i've seen Shimano.

Can anyone shed any light on things please?

    Shed light on what?

What do you want to know?! The Sprint was made for a few years so the design changed a bit. If you just want general info, post some pics on the Retrobike forums. Suntour probably means it is no later than early 80s and is a good thing as you'll be hard pushed to find a better groupset than the Suntour of those days (assuming it is VX or better still Cyclone level).

  • Mine was a early 80's black 501 frame, with gold, anodised Groupset ( make ? )

Was way too big for me, but it was fast

Changed the wheels to some handbuilts with Campag hubs - as a 15 y.o. I thought it was the dog's...

    What did I know
All the gear, but no idea...

Mmm black and gold. Niice ! It was around for years so I'd expect there to be lots of versions of it.

The late 80's saw the black components, earlier models had the gold bling...I think.

£50  I threw my old one in the bin earlier this year; and it wouldn't fit in, so I took the angle grinder to it!

Late 80s is unlikely for Suntour on a Raleigh.

You cut one up? Even shabby ones can make £150 on ebay with a good advert and phrases like 'would make a good fixie' in it.
