Hi, 1st post,
After much research, I picked up the Trek 6500 a few days ago, feels great, forks are very good ,
Only issue I have is the front disc is rubbing, is this because its new?

Happy new bike. Yes - Disc brakes have a bedding in period which varies from model to model. Give it a few miles and hopefully it'll work fine. If not, they may need slightly adjusting.
......it might also improve performance if you take those orange reflectors off the spokes as well!0 -
thanks for the reply,
will certainly give them a few more miles. (it became irritating to a point where i had to press the front brake to stop the noise and for it to come back again and again)
i'm meaning to take them off but Work keeps getting in the way.0 -
Looks good!
I would say you need to take it to the bike shop about the rubbing.
Here's why. I went out with a m8 who had rubbing after the first ride, he rocked up looking all cool next time we met, span the wheel for it to rotate half distance. He was going to ride the trail with it like that as one side was locking on, but I convinced him it needed fixing at the bike shop, but he was like 'dont worry man, I'll fix it now'. Unfortunately I carry tools so he upended it in the parking lot, fiddled around with me saying 'take it to the bike shop man, they'll fix it' and him being typically stubborn. Got to the point where he could not get the disk back in and the wheel back on. Wasted over 35 min before this point, so I threw his bike in the boot, the guy at the bike shop did it on the spot, but he had to do loads of extra work like bleeding the brakes before he was able to give it back.
Point is to get it down the shop. Should have a years warranty so it should not cost you anything except inconvenience.
The bike will bed in over the first few months, the gear changes might become less crisp as cables stretch and the wheels may go out of true as they are not all perfect out of the factory.
Hope you enjoy the bike once you get the rubbing sorted.0 -
Sounds like a lot of drama.
If it's just a gentle rub leave it - brakes bed in and the pads centre. If it's more than than loosen the bolts holding the caliper to the fork, squeeze the brake to centre the caliper, and retighten them. Tighten bit by bit so the caliper doesn't move while you tighten them. Don't even need to take the wheel off.
(Only thing to make sure of is you loosen the right bolts - not the ones holding the two sides of the caliper together.)I don't do smileys.

Good news or bad?
Good is the fact o have cured the issue,
Bad is upon fixing the issue, I had unsrewed the incorrect bolts causing brake fluid to leak slightly and now the lever is lose to the point the break is applied but at full press as opposed to half pressed.0 -
After I warned you? Awesome. Fluid out = air in so on a positive note, you now get an opportunity to practise bleeding them.I don't do smileys.

i will make sure it doesnt get to that stage lol.
ordered myself the bleeding kit. hope for the best.0 -
I'm too late but check out epicbleedsolutions for really cheap bleed kits. I'd never pay full price for an avid ... etc kit.0

Much appreciated, I've orderd one the same price.as that via an auction site.
Would you guys reccomend changing anything on the trek 6500? Change of seat is a must, feel like a wedgie everytime I ride.0 -

But I don;t say things like that now, so it's all ok.0 -
No offense taken mate, its the truth,
next step is fixing the issue and learning from the mistake.0 -
I would take offence at anything Yeehaa says, even if it's not offensive, simply because he is an offence to humanity.
I would even take offence if he doesn't say anything, because he's probably thinking it.I don't do smileys.

Looks like that kid was taken out by a fence. If I wasn't so busy, and had took his fence, then maybe the fence wouldn't have been on the offence, and the fact he was defenceless wouldn't have mattered, because he would already have been defenced.0
