Hi

Could someone who knows please give me the benefit of their wisdom?

is a 34 x32 gear lower than a 30 x28?

This is probably obvious to many of you so advance apologies for my ignorance and many thanks for your anticipated assistance!

Are we having a good season, by the way?

Thanks and rgards.

Yes, marginally. If in doubt just divide the number of teeth on the chainring by the number of teeth on the cassette and whichever gives the lower number is an easier gear.

If you are looking at putting a 32t sprocket on with a 34t chainring though you need to make sure your rear mech has a large enough tooth difference capacity. For example, if you are using a 32-12 cassette with a 50/34 chainset you will need a rear mech that has a tooth difference capacity of 36 (deduct the number of teeth on the smaller chainring from the larger i.e. 50 - 34 and then do the same for the rear cassette i.e. 20 and add the results together). Apologies if you already know that and I'm teaching you how to suck eggs!
  • 34x32 is the same as 29.75x28, so it is negligibly lower.
