changing steerer on fox f series fork

hi all, my mate has a set of fox f series and the steerer is too short at 170mm.
can a new one be put in or does he have to send them off to mojo.

Needs an entire new upper assembly. Expensive.

yeah, thought as much. he only paid £130 for the forks, so i told him to find a frame to fit them!
