Went away on holiday for 10 days and when I got back on Friday I was greeted to a nice big "bikeguard" box; about a week before I went on holiday I ordered myself a Canyon Ultimate AL9.0 (Tripple).

Excitedly I took the bike out of the box and set about tearing off frame protection and fitting the bars / stem, saddle & wheels. After a little initial position adjustment it was time to go out to test how the bike felt, I rode a few hundred meters up the road and the bike felt very fast. I made a few more position adjustments, checked everything was nice and tight and was ready to take it for first a proper spin.
Bearing in mind I've just had a 10 day holiday of lazing around and over eating I was not in the best shape, but I decided to do a 53 mile route I've done before (and that I previously rode [for me] fast) to see how I would compare on the new bike. I got on, powered up the garmin and rode away, it was a very windy day but after the first couple of miles I really got a great feel for just how fast this bike could be. Compared to my CX bike, it's very light, has amazing power transfer and feels very stiff. With all the bad press about Alu frames being stiff and uncomfortable, I was prepared to be a little uncomfy, but I needent have worried, the Canyon feels great, there is nothing uncomfortable about it, it's brilliant, to me, it felt equally as comfy as top spec Carbon frames some of my friends ride and rave about and spent thousands on. Mine on the other hand cost me £1300 for a full Ultegra groupset, and £40 for some 105 pedals.

I am very pleased with the bike, and can't recommend it enough, it feels as fast as carbon equivalents without the hefty price tag and it's equally comfortable. Canyon really have designed a great frame here and I couldn't be happier with the bike. The finishing kit for the price point is unbelievable, the wheels are great, tyres have good grip, and thanks to the groupset, brakes are sharp enough and the shifting is quick.

My previous best time on the 53mile route was 2:44:12, on the Canyon (in windy conditions and far from best physical condition) I managed to clock 2:41:34.

Here's the previous best ride:

So for anyone thinking about it, go and buy a Canyon, they are great!

Lovely bike Matty, can I ask you what size it is and how tall you are please? I'm borderline between the s and m (5'11") so trying to figure out which one I need! Thanks

    Sorry for late reply,
I'm 6ft2" (inseam 32") and have the Large and it's a perfect fit; I went with the PPS system recommendation...

Covered just over 600 miles now and it's a brilliant road bike, super lightweight and great power transfer, can happily cruise around 20mph on this machine, it's fast but best of all, it's very comfortable and I love the Ritchley bars

Am 5ft6 and am on a S frame, reach is perfect for me on that frame. I suspect you will need a M.
