Hi guys, looking at buying my first road bike and think ive narrowed it down to the Cannondale SuperSix 105 and the Caad10 Ultegra both at which ive found for just under £1400. Mainly commuting and rides at the weekend. Not totally clued up yet on becoming a roadie as im a mountain biker so would be grateful for any input from the experts on here! Many thanks

Mat.

  • My general rule is "components can be upgraded easily, frames can't". I'd go for the bike with the best frame and fork, which would probably be the SuperSix. You can always upgrade to Ultegra, or Dura-Ace in the long run. The CAAD10 is a very nice bike, but I think overall the carbon framed SuperSix will ride better.

Plus, because the SuperSix is carbon it's resale value would probably be higher compared to the CAAD10, so if you did decide the road wasn't for you, you might be able to get your money back on the other end. Unlike the CAAD10 which is made out of a material which is sadly dying in the high end bike industry, Aluminum.

Anyway whatever you pick, those are two cracking bikes you've chosen. I've got a SuperSix EVO myself and I love it.

SuperSix is just like a CAAD10 but in carbon. The geometries are the same.

I have a SuperSix and it is amazing. It is the best bike I have ever ridden (and I have ridden a few, not an EVO though! :))

  • Guys would anyone have an idea how on the Cheshire Oaks Cycles web site they are selling a 2012 Cannondale Supersix 105 for £1999 and a 2013 Supersix 105 for 200quid less? Surely the latest bike would be more no?

As said previously the Super6 and the CAAD10 are essentially the same frame other than the material.

This means that the choice is basically on what 'feel' you like. Carbon tends to be more comfortable but can feel slightly 'removed' from the road where as the aluminium frame provides more feedback which some feel harsh, but personaly I like the more feedback (years of riding motorcycles round a track you see, where feedback is key).

I'd choose the Supersix. A lighter frame that should last longer.
  • I own a caad 10 with 105 and a madone with a mix of Ultegra & DA......... Caad is good, but I would be without a carbon frame and 105 works well enough......I would get the supersix on that basis.
