This is my first proper bike after not riding since I was younger, pretty pleased with it so far, I'd quite like to replace the pedals with some flats from superstar, and I am debating changing to a 1x10 setup as I don't really use the 2x10 at all. I need to get up to the trails a bit more but I am waiting on a friend getting a bike so I have someone to regularly go with!
So far I have changed the grips for some Superstar's as I didn't find the standard ones comfy, I have also changed to some wider bars and a shorter stem. Not sure how much it will help the handling but it feels okay so far.

  • Nice bike that, i changed to 1x10 (36t up front) and it was fine at dalby the other day, only a couple of climbs i couldn't make
Just makes the whole gearing so simple

    Daz
  • How difficult was it to do Daz? Is it just a case of taking the big ring off? I'm a bit clueless really, although I haven't looked into it properly.

Funnily enough I was at Dalby on Monday, but I was with my girlfriend and little boy so I didn't have chance to do any of the harder routes, and I didn't fancy doing them by myself!

To go 1x10, first choose your gearing based on what you use now, remove surplus ring/rings, shifters/cables and fit a chain guide....
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

Bear in mind your bike has an fsa chainset with special 3 bolt chain rings, so to realistically go 1x10, you would need new bb30 cranks, a single speed chain ring and a chain device, in other words a whole of money for doing something you might not even get on with.

Well ive got the XT crank with external hope BB, ive fitted a ISCG 05 to the BB, then ive got the brave B- Force chain guide £50 from CRC, running a 36t hope downhill single ring

All very simple to fit really but a few tools are required.....then u get rid of the inner ring, outer ring, front mech, shifter........where in hull are you???

    Daz
  • Thanks for the reply's guys, It was just something to think about for now. It's doing no harm to keep the gearing as it is.

Daz I'm just off Newland ave. What about you?

Just a couple of additions today.

  • Try staying in the middle ring on ya next ride see how ya get on just using the rear 10 as it can cost a few quid converting and you may not like it

I live off noddle hill way, bransholme

Dalby red route was good but quite wet n muddy...". I got a stone in my rear brake which stripped a pad :-(. Not good
    Have you been ?
  • That's not great.

I have been but only with the family so I stuck to the green routes. I really need to get out there properly but I haven't rode properly for a while so I need to test myself on the blue routes before I hit anything tougher!

    What bike are you using?
  • Yeah good idea, dalby red is a hard trail and a bit rough in places, i like sherwood pines better, its a shorter trail at 8.5 miles but we just go round twice and also raywell near cottingham has some decent stuff

Ive got a 2011 scott scale 60. Done a few upgrades to it like ya do ....... So far been a good bike
  • I have never been out near Raywell is it any good? I need to go but I am stuck for a regular riding partner at the moment! If you ever wanna go for a ride drop me a PM!
