Hi guys, Looking for a Bash Guard for my Shimano FC-M431 chainset, Big ring is 48T, Any ideas?
Also what do you think of Tektro Auriga Comp brakes? They seem ok but I want good brakes not ok brakes lol, Can anyone recommend some better brakes?
Pretty sure someone on here uses these? Any good? http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hygiy-alum ... rear-67027
Cheers for any help.

I use Hygia brakes, are very good, though the fitted hoses are short.0

Are you looking at replacing the big ring with a bashguard (easy and cheap) or adding one to a triple (expensive)?I don't do smileys.

Either... I hardly ever use the big ring to be honest so which ever is cheapest...0

Replacing the big ring with a bash is you're best bet. A 48t bash guard will be hard to find and pretty expensive if you do.My Nukeproof Mega

Ok, What size bash would I need to replace the big ring? All new territory for me this lol.0

Roughly the size of your middle ring.I don't do smileys.

These guys have a good range of bash guards and are cheap, about £12 posted from USA.

What about swapping over to something like this?

Because I don't need my big ring, 24 and 36T would be fine, Comes with bash guard which I want anyway. Then if I need to I can swap over easily.0

May as well for that price, if it fits. Then on rides when you want the 48t you can just swap cranks.0
-
That's what I was thinking How can I tell if it fits?... I have a 11/12 Bokor with standard BB etc...0
-
It's a pretty heavy DH type crank. As far as I can remember you need a specific Howitzer BB. So you can't swap easily.
No idea what BB is on your Bokor, but it will be a Shimano - there is no 'standard'.I don't do smileys.

Now considering going single up front... I've never used the granny ring and don't need the big ring. Makes sense to cut some weight whilst buying something new Or should/could I convert my current crankset to single?
And if I put a bash guard on too would my current bolts (which currently fasten the middle and big ring) be ok/the right size to fasten the guard on instead of the big ring? Or would I benefit more from new and lighter crankset?0 -
You seem to be changing your mind a lot here. Go and sit down, have a cup of tea and consider what you actually want to achieve.
Then come back when you know, or have a better idea of, what you're after.0 -
You need to think about what you actually want/need properly i think.
edit: oops beaten to it0 -
Just leave it in the middle ring and done, no cost.I don't do smileys.

I'm just giving myself options, I don't need the big or granny ring. Would like to try single upfront to be honest.
Would I be ok with using my current crankset as a single? And could anyone point me towards a few options of a new single crankset which would cut me some weight?0 -
Use what you have, take the rings off, fit a bashguard of the size of the ring that is left.0

No you're not, you are reducing your options.0 -

If so, that's not a chain device.0 -

Fine, it's not a chain guide either then - in that it won;t stop the chain from coming off the top of the chain ring like a chainguide/device or front mech does.0
