Hi I'm new to this forum!!
I'm an experienced XC rider with about 17 years of saddlesoreness behind me, This year I have put aside some cash to purchase a new XC machine. I have my own thoughts on which I would like. I'd just like your thoughts too, as I said i'm looking for a XC/AM machine..... I don't have a particular budget, how-ever i'm not spending more than £3k. I'd like something less common on the trails, as they're seems to be lots of Spesh's, Dale's, Giants...etc Been to Halfords, Decathlon...... who have very limited bikes, and the staff seem a bit....... ''vague'' shall we say...... Any thoughts?

yes all the right words
3k..... ever considered a foes, or a mountain cycle (i have a rumble, not that common at all)
avoid "the peters" and yeti as they are getting too common on the trails, must be this austerity thing, and especially the peters need a dropper post and a X5 / X6 to drive to the forest.....
but boutique is a good way to go (can you feel my smugness from there..) great bikes, well designed and not made in Taiwan
ever though about a custom build from merlin ti or the like??0 -
Hmm thanks for the reply,
A lot to think about, I hadn't thought of any of your reccs....... i'm currently lookng at a Rose Am. I've had a Merlin TI before.... Nice bikess. The Foes Shaver-29 looks excellent........Orange 5 Pro 650b 2014

An Orange 5, that's what you need. *runs for cover*

Cube's a getting more popular, but I've only seen a handful so far:-

Not sure I'd call the Titus El Guapo an XC/AM bike - it's a pure AM rig that one and that weighs in at over 14kg
If you're leaning more towards the AM side something like the Canyon Nerve AM 9 SL (with a 42t chainring) would me my choice;

But I consider my Rockhopper an XC/AM bike (although not £3K's worth!) as it's an XC bike with a longer fork, dropper post, shorter stem, tougher wheels, bigger tyres etc"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes
