First road bike - 2013 Giant Defy 4 or B'Twin Triban 3??

Evening all. First post on here since mid 2007!!
I'm something of a newbie when it comes to road bikes, having ridden mountain bikes between 1991 and 2007, when I broke my wrist on the 'Terrible Twins' at Dalbeattie. I then sold both my Orange Evo 8 and Orange Five Pro, but now feel the need (as I approach my 46th birthday next month) to get my leg over again.
A few guys I know are into road bikes and I'm keen to pick up a bike and see if I can remember how to pedal. My head is saying B'Twin Triban 3 at £300, but I reckon the frame on the £600 Giant will be a better bet for any future upgrades.
Any thoughts, first-hand experiences or alternative suggestions?
Cheers guys.

I own a Triban 3, my riding buddy owns a Defy 3 ( same frame on all the Defy bikes). I have ridden both, it's not worth the extra money for the Giant frame IMHO. The Giant is nicer specced, but it costs a lot more, and you don't notice the difference out on the road.
Save yourself some money on your bike purchase, put it towards some nice riding kit instead.
The Triban frame is designed in France and made in Italy, alot of other companies would whack a premium on for those kind of credentials. It will be worth an upgrade in the future, I'm already looking at new wheels from Santa........0 -
Cheers for your feedback Boydie. Great to hear from someone who's ridden both bikes. I think I'll nip down to Decathlon tomorrow and see what the score is with regard to the availability of 60cm Triban 3's. After the amazing review they got in Cycling Active, I understand they're pretty thin on the ground just now. :-(
Thanks again mate.Derek.0
