the vengeance and centos are more or less the same, the differences being the centos has a 120mm fork over the 100mm on the vengeance, and according to spec list the centos is nearly 1kg lighter, an alternative here http://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-53 ... 06682.html has 27 gears over the 24 of the carrera's and a bit cheaper

What about the valour? It looks good but is it rubbish?

It's not rubbish but it's not a very good mountian bike either, undamped forks and V-brakes.

Centos looks OK but it's not a £500 bike, never has been nor never will be, forks appear to be undamped (XCM can be damped or undamped) or the Carrera's the Vulcan is the better bet, or look at the Voodoo Bantu.

The vulcan was my first choice but all the halfords around me are. Sold out and have been for weeks. The centos looks ok but I prefer the valour bue the look of it...which one would you personally get?

I'd wait for the Vulcan, riding off road (not just smooth paths) with an undamped fork is pretty uncomfortable .....plus it has hydraulic brakes.

Do you have a Decathlon near you?

No I dont, the nearest one of those stores in 40 miles, I am considering the centos, I only need it to travel 6 miles a day to and from work and maybe so light cross country at weekends, I dont do trails or anything so would the centos be good for that? Dont really like hybrids so they are a no no

It would be fine for that. Buy the best bike you can afford.

Why have heavy suspension forks at all for that usage. I know the Subway is called a Hybrid but it's really an MTB with rigid forks and road tyres and would be the best option of the lot.

According to the Halfords specs the Centos is lighter than the Subway.
