I need some advice on buying a full sus bike for all day adventures. I've got a budget of £1000-£1200 and with the current sales there seems to be a wide selection of bikes available. I've looked at all the mainstream bikes Giant X range, Trek fuel ex, Specialised Camber blah, blah, blah, but are there any other brands and models I shoud be considering?
I know it's a broad topic but just to explain, I live in deepest, darkest Cornwall and to visit the "local" bike dealers would involve several hours and a couple of hundred miles of travelling. Many thanks in advance

If you can't get to shops to test for fit ect, then I would add canyon to your list.

That is some bike for the money, thanks for the pointer.0

You've got some pretty rugged terrain down your way and if you're really into all day rides you might wanna think about something a little less racey...

I'm really banging this drum, having become a recent owner, but Cube make some great bikes; the 2012 range has just gone out of production and is a great buy...
AMS 130 Pro / AMS 150 Pro, depending on what shock travel you're gonna need.0 -
The cube looks lovely but pricing is a bit high. How do they ride?0

Couple hundred miles to drive to a bike shop? Slight exaggeration isn't it.0

You could check out the Rose Uncle Jimbo. A mate was looking at it a few weeks ago and seem to remember it was around £1200(ish)"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Unfotunately Briggo it's not. I have one local bike shop which has zero stock of full sussers but were quite happy to try to sell me a £1300 bike without even seeing it. The next nearest one would be a 30 mile round trip and it's a roady shop. Then the nearest one after that would be a 50 mile round trip and I haven't visited that shop before. Then I'd be looking at going to Plymouth to find a good sized shop with some stock which would be a 156 mile round trip. So to compare 3 or 4 bikes IF the shops had them in stock would be several hours of travelling and a couple of hundred miles0 -

Cheers Chez, there's a lot to look at there. What are the opinions on the Sunn and Ghost bikes?0
