Title says it all really, I've joined the i-revolution.

So far I'm still of the opinion that it's ace, but I don't really need it. So, which apps should I get ?

Cheers...... M

    i msad is pretty good!

Anyway, it's not your computer it's Apple's. Why not ask Apple what you are allowed to install?

Please, no "i backlash" for my comments. "i" prefer 'open' computers (although these are now becoming rare!)

    Just some ideas...

Utilities - Pages, Dropbox, GoodReader, Maps, PCLite calculator, Noteshelf (for scribbles and annotating photos etc.)
Fun stuff - IMDB, BBCiPlayer, TuneIn Radio, iBooks, Kindle and iTunes for film and audio downloads.

    edit...and check out StarWalk!

FilmOnTV is good for cycling highlights on ITV4.

I find all the catch up tv channels are good if you want to watch anything you've missed particularly the ITV Player for the ITV4 cycling highlights and the Cycle Show :o
Sky sports app is pretty good for getting the latest football and all other sports news (they are getting better with their cycling news now) and if you are a Sky Tv subscriber you can watch sky sports live if on wifi. The Sky remote app is good for the same reason and allows you to watch a selection of Sky channels when away from home.
For music iTunes is nice and easy and again you can download apple remote to use your iPad as a control unit for all your music and videos.
Trip advisor app is great for checking out restaurants etc
Right move app is good if you are looking to move house; renting or buying.
eBay app if you are into the auction scene
As already said Dropbox is great for access to files on your iPad when away from your main computer and coupled with Docs to go is very useful.
Photo bucket app is great for uploading photos and then adding into the Forum or sharing when on the move.

You'll then start to wonder how you ever survived pre-iPad :D

So you've just bought a gadget, and don't know what you can use it for. But you're convinced it's wonderful, and now want to find a reason for owning it. Don't be too concerned, there's sure to be an app for that . . .

    Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Great toy; the longer you own it the more you'll enjoy it.

TV Catchup (i think) is good for just watching TV. As mentioned iPlayer & ITV Player are also worth having and C4 prob do something too. The Twitter app is good once you latch onto a group of people who speak your language ( I follow the TG presenters, Queen_UK, Rory Bremner, David Millar, Cav, Wiggo etc to name a few). Makes for light reading of an evening.

A few games - Suduko, word games if you like that sort of thing. There are probably a load of productive aids that you could put on it, but mine is for slumping on the sofa of an evening with.

Gear Ratio Calculator is good and bike related. Cant remember exactly what it's called - just search for it.

Get some photo apps - instagram style ones are great. Camera Plus (I think it's called) is my fave, and free, I think.

    Angry Birds, obviously.

    Flipboard is a cool app,
Skype if you have "friends" in distant places.
If you like music, try garageband and beatwave
Accuweather, though it could be described as inaccurate.
My best game is called score, you get to relive and score the world cups all time greatest goals , ok if you like footy.
If you plan on going any word processing or power points you can do them in cloudon, works well with Microsoft.
And for interesting photos and news try guardian eyewitness and national geo today.
And share any other good ones you find.

It's better than that. We were given an ipad as a belated joint 40th birthday present, MrsC promptly sync'd it with her iphone and put a ton of silly games and sh*te on it. I thought, that's it, chances of me getting to usie it are slim to none, so I promptly went out and bought another

    But:
Yes, I want to know how best I can utilist it.
    Yes, I think it's ace.
No, I don't need a reason for owning it.

Good suggestions, keep 'em coming folks !! :D

    I've got:
Alarm Clock HD, great for when I'm travelling.
    Photobucket
    Autotrader
Star Chart, which is just what it says.
Colour Effects - seems a good photo app so far, lets you play around with eerm.... colour effects on your photos.
    Facebook
    Skype
BT WiFi - great if you're on BT broadband, it shows you where all the hot spots are.
Sticky notes - basically post it notes for your ipad.
    A bunch of daft games.

My brother in law told me about an app which is basically microsoft office, but stored in the cloud, any ideas what it's called ?

    Flixster.

I am sure that it has some practical use but I mainly use it for watching future film trailers when I have a spare few minutes.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

The BBC News app is good, includes live News 24 if you wish to use it.

I put Animoog on mine when it was a free d/l but now seems to be quite costly. It's a bit of fun, a fully-featured configurable synth that makes proper synth noises. I am Rick Wakeman.

Also found an 8-track multi-track recorder for about a fiver with a load of built-in drum patterns that I've played with, overlaying bass & guitars to create layered recordings. I am also Brian May in my spare time. I'll see what that was called and post back later.

Thing about the iPad is that it's great out of the box, with web browser, email, Youtube etc already on and after the initial one-off setup it makes all that accessible in seconds rather than firing up the PC. Naysayers can do what they like. You don't like it? Don't buy one.

The official ebay app is quite good. Will also come in handy when you decide to sell your iPad after realising that it is Apple who retain ownership of your iPad.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

Evernote is good and if you combine it with a note taking app, evernote does handwriting recognition which means you can search for keywords in handwritten notes. I only discovered this today and i'm in awe. Being a student must be a doddle nowadays.

Ignore him. Just someone who can't accept that a toy has an inherent value just for being what it is. Which is odd in a place like this where we buy pointlessly expensive bikes & associated gadgetry for no reason other than that it exists and is fun to own. Apple Bad. Anyone who own Apple gear sucker, not know own mind. Apparently.
