Bash Guard Rubbing

I've fitted a bash guard tonight in place of my outer chain ring and having a bit of trouble with set up.

When I use the middle (now outer) ring on the front and anything higher than 5th on the rear the chain rubs on the bash guard, not really sure how to solve this. I'm currently using the 22/32t chain rings that came on the bike but bought a 36t bash gaurd with the thought that it would give me the option of changing to a larger chain ring in future, could this be my problem? Do I just need spacers to pack the guard out?

The bike's got Shimano Alivio 9 speed and I'm using a Race Face 36t bash guard if it's relevant.

yep the bash is too big.

    correct size bash or ring.

  • Ah, right. At least it's a simple fix.

    Thanks

or you could space it out. washers are about 70p each and you may need longer bolts.

but there is a reason for bash rings being sized. they can and do rub.
